Program Overview

  • First Graduate Degree in Latin America that prepares students to lead the next generation of art and design professionals.
  • The MA program is offered by CENTRO, the leading Mexican institution in training professionals in design and creativity related areas, in partnership with Sotheby’s Institute of Art, the global leader in the art market.
  • The students will learn from experts of both institutions, as well as prestigious experts of the artworld. In addition to traditional courses, students will have access to lectures and intensive seminars with international tutors professors.
  • You will understand all about the operation of the most important agents in contemporary art such as fairs, museums, galleries, auction houses, biennales, collections and digital platforms.
  • You will learn marketing and finance strategies, and will be able to identify trends.
  • You will acquire a profound understanding of art theory and curating.
  • You will develop a personal and international network in the contemporary art sector.
  • You will have two study programs in the United States: New York, where you will learn about the main commercial institutions (galleries and auction houses), and Los Angeles, where you will visit non-commercial institutions (private collections and museums.

Chair | Kerstin Erdmann

Director of OMR, a gallery that participates in the most prestigious art fairs in the world and represents diverse artists in international exhibitions and biennales. She has a BA in Culture Studies from the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt, Germany, and an MA in Art Studies from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, Mexico. She has been a guest curator in the Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil in Mexico City, MACO Oaxaca and MUSAS Hermosillo, and has been part of the interinstitutional relations team of MUAC. She has taught seminars on the international art market and has published extensively on Mexican contemporary art.

Financial Aid

More than 50% of our graduate students have a scholarship with a significant amount of financial aid.

The candidate must have a Letter of Acceptance in order to apply for financial aid. Scholarships are granted after a socio-economical evaluation.

Former students from CENTRO have a 20% scholarship for any Graduate Degree, and a 30% if they apply within the first year since their graduation.

CENTRO as a Creative Ecosystem

As a graduate student in CENTRO you will have access to an creative ecosystem with development and research options such as:

Steam Lab | An experimentation model where science, technology, art, culture and science converge. The synergic elements of this lab are deployed to promote creativity and expand its impact in strategic environments.

CIEC | Mexico’s first Research Center on Creative Economy, an innovation that has been listed on the CONACyT’s National Register of Scientific and Technological Institutions since 2013. CENTRO’s Research Center on Creative Economy (CIEC) is a specialist office for disseminating scientific content related to the university’s areas of specialization.

HUB de Diseño Social | A transversal area that relates to all our undergraduate and graduate degrees; it primarily promotes the development of social projects in order to raise awareness on to the potential that professional creatives have to enact positive social change. The Social Design Hub is an open project, based on the creation of shared value, on crosscutting collaboration and co-design.
